– In partnership with The Laura Lynn Foundation
A Dual-Language Picture Book
The design and print team at Cantec had the pleasure of working with Dr. Caroline McGarry and Laura O’Mahony to produce this lovely book ‘Ar Ais ar Scoil’. A rhyming, dual-language picture book, it tells of Paidí and Clara’s return to primary school in September after the extended Covid related closure.
‘Ar Ais ar Scoil’ is priced at only €8 and all proceeds are for the Laura Lynn Foundation to continue their excellent work.
Each page consists of a mixed format of English and Gaeilge with delightful colourful illustrations. The story aims to help children deal with and understand the effects of the Covid 19 changes in the classroom and playground. In simple, easy to understand language the story navigates their day at school and eases the transition back to the classroom. As an educator and a parent, Caroline was keen to reduce the levels of anxiety felt by children and their parents.
To make the booklets appealing and engaging for the children, we worked closely with talented artist, Laura O’ Mahony, who created the amazing illustrations throughout ‘Ar Ais ar Scoil’. We advised on sizing and spacing and recommended additional images to enhance the story.
The mixed format of Gaeilge and character illustrations highlight the helpful infographics showing the importance of social distancing and washing your hands correctly while attending primary school. Caroline & Laura’s book show how although some things have changed, lots of lovely aspects of school are the same. This is a very reassuring message to impart to the children.
Our team laid out the book to enhance the images and bring focus to the message conveyed. The font and colours used are child-friendly and clear for early readers. Above all, the book is a fun and encouraging tale of Paidi & Clara’s return to school.
